CEMETERY REGULATIONS

UNDERSTAND THE CEMETERY REGULATIONS
Prior to purchasing a marker from Prairie Flat Memorials, it is imperative to understand and confirm the cemetery regulations. Cemeteries WILL NOT accept markers that do not comply to their regulations. The cemetery is required to allow it's customers to purchase a marker from the vendor of their choosing, but the cemetery can have specific requirements that must be adhered to. If the marker is refused by the cemetery, all charges incurred, including return shipping and the possible remaking of the marker are the purchaser´s responsibility.

ARE YOU IN A FLAT MARKER OR UPRIGHT SECTION?

The plot you have purchased at the cemetery will determine the type of monument (memorial) you can place on the plot. Many cemeteries have designated flat marker and upright sections. Make sure you know what type of monument is allowed in your plot section.

HAVE YOU PURCHASE A SINGLE OR DOUBLE PLOT?

This will often impact the size limitations for your marker. What's important to understand is the difference between a single plot that allows multiple burials/cremations and side by side plots. The latter will often allow for larger monuments.

WHAT ARE THE SIZE RESTRICTIONS?
There are often a variety of sizes allowed by the cemetery. These can vary depending on the size, location and type of plot. You must purchase a marker that matches the specified size range and thickness requirements.

DOES THE MARKER HAVE TO BE 3” OR 4” THICK?

The cemetery regulations will determine how thick the marker needs to be. Most cemeteries will specify 3" or 4" and you will have to choose the appropriate size.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SIZE BASE FOR YOUR UPRIGHT?

If you are in an upright section the cemetery regulations will state how wide the base can be. The widths will be different for single plots of side by side plots.

IS A PLOT LOCATION REQUIRED?
Some cemeteries require the plot location engraved onto the marker. If this is the case, please specify the plot location during checkout. If there are size and location parameters, contact us with all the details at customerservice@prairieflatmemorials.ca

WHAT TYPE OF MATERIAL IS REQUIRED?
Prairie Flat Memorials only offers granite markers. Some cemeteries only allow bronze markers. This needs to be understood and verified prior to purchasing a marker.

ARE BEVELED EDGES REQUIRED?
Occasionally cemeteries will require beveled edges. If this is the case, please specify in the comments section. Additional charges may apply.

ARE THERE COLOUR RESTRICTIONS?
Prairie Flat Memorials only offers Black Granite markers, so confirm this is accepted at your cemetery.

IS A PERMIT REQUIRED AND HAS IT BEEN PAID?
Often cemeteries will require a completed permit along with any associated fees to paid prior to installation. Prairie Flat Memorials will not be responsible for fulfilling permit applications or paying fees.
