Cemetery Regulations

Cemetery Regulations

Prior to purchasing a headstone, it is imperative to understand and confirm the cemetery regulations. Cemeteries will not accept monuments that do not comply to their regulations. The cemetery is required to allow it's customers to purchase a marker from the vendor of their choosing, but the cemetery can have specific requirements that must be adhered to.

Why does the cemetery implement regulations and bylaws? There are many reasons, but some of the most common are as follows;

  1. Provide a consistent aesthetic
  2. Ensure the monument, headstone and/or marker will fit on the plot
  3. Cemeteries often have different sections for different styles of monument and want to be consistent in what is allowed
  4. To ensure the appropriate fees are charged for the monument
  5. Provide a guideline for what can be engraved on the monument
