Our Story

After purchasing one of the largest monument companies in Western Canada, Paul and Ashley quickly realized there were many families that wanted the ability to design a memorial from the comfort of home and wanted a more cost-effective offering. This inspired the creation of Prairie Flat Memorials. An online provider of black memorials that can be customized without the cost.

Paul and Ashley have lived in the Edmonton area for most of their lives. They met shortly after high school and couldn’t be happier raising their two beautiful little girls in the city they love. They decided to embrace their entrepreneurial spirits by acquiring Edmonton Granite Memorials, and have truly enjoyed every minute of this great industry. Ashley left her 15-year career as a nurse at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and Paul moved on from his sales career, to pursue their dream of becoming business owners, and they haven’t looked back.

There were three issues they wanted to provide a solution for.

1. Make purchasing a memorial more affordable
2. Provide a faster delivery timeline
3. Offer an unparalleled online experience

The decision to only offer black monuments was intentional. The demand for a cost-effective monument offering has been increasing consistently over the years, as the death of a loved one has become more and more expensive year after year . Black is the most versatile colour, accommodating a vast range of designs, and once engraved, it reveals a beautiful contrast that will maintain its integrity and legibility for generations.

The decision to invest in a specialized design software, integrated with the website, was necessary to ensure the final product looked identical to the image created by the customer, with correct proportions, size and spacing, relative to the size of monument selected. This is a key differentiator of Prairie Flat Memorials from other online providers, as every detail has been accounted for when creating the pre-designed templates, to guarantee the final engraved marker will meet the customer's expectations for quality and legibility.   

Quality is paramount to every monument created at Prairie Flat Memorials. The newly constructed, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Edmonton has been in operation since 2015 and has the capability to accommodate high demand for cost-effective monuments and more importantly, comes with the experience of industry professionals who have spent their lives working in the monument industry.
